The effect of histamine H2-receptor blockade with metiamide on serum gastrin levels in man.
Metiamide, an histamine H2-receptor antagonist which inhibits gastric acid secretion, does not lower basal serum gastrin concentration in man. Serum gastrin responses after stimulation by food were marginally higher when the stimulus of food was preceded by metiamide.

Background: Radioprotective capability of histamine H2 receptor antagonists have been shown in several in vivo studies mainly using animal models. However, to verify the effectiveness of these agents in clinical applications, studies should be performed on human cells. In the present study radioprotective properties of these agents was examined in vitro on human lymphocytes using metaphase anal...
متن کاملImmunomodulation by fungal toxins.
The availability of immunotoxicity data for fungal toxins varies considerably for different toxins. The following is a comprehensive review of the most recent literature on the immunotoxicity of aflatoxins, fumonisins, gliotoxin, ochratoxins, patulin, and trichothecenes. Aflatoxin is an immunomodulating agent that acts primarily on cell-mediated immunity and phagocytic cell function. In additio...
متن کاملImmunomodulation by the Female Sex Hormones
Pregnancy is a highly regulated process, requiring strict control of the immune system in order to prevent rejection of the semiallogenic foetus. One aspect of pregnancy immunology that has been of great interest is the influence of female sex and pregnancy associated hormones, such as progesterone and oestrogen, on cells of the immune system. This review evaluates studies investigating the abi...
متن کاملImmunomodulation in the critically ill.
Immunotherapy in the critically ill is an appealing notion because of the apparent abnormal immune and inflammatory responses seen in so many patients. The administration of a medication that could alter immune responses and decrease mortality in patients with sepsis could represent a 'magic bullet'. Various approaches have been tried over the last 20 yr: steroids; anti-endotoxin or anti-cytoki...
